Hannah STORY HOW IT ALL BEGAN

Who else could be better at guiding you, our reader, through how we started our business than the person with whom the brand HANNAH would not have been born. We have asked Hana, the brand’s co-founder, to tell you a bit of how it all began: 

"In the 1980s, we all were enthusiasts in climbing who could not imagine weekends spent elsewhere than in the rocks. Climbing, sandstone towers and friends – that was our world. We were linked together by our love for nature and by the thirst for fulfilling our climbing dreams.

But to achieve that, we also needed first-class equipment that could not be obtained in our country then. There was only one solution available: to produce everything we needed somehow ourselves. I was sewing down sleeping bags, jackets and “bonekan” (very heavy, knitted cloth) jackets for my friends. At that time, I was not the only one who tried to catch up through one’s own production with what was not available then in the socialist shops. Every climbing team had someone who produced something – backpacks, climbing lanyards or even climbing belay gears. The amateur beginnings had sort of an appeal for us. Imagine the horrid mess you would create in your bathroom when starting stuffing down into a sleeping bag sewn with your own hands. Feathers are everywhere with you in the centre of the chaos, kneeling in the bathtub and trying to persuade the down to finally get where you want to. You may laugh, and so  do we, when remembering the days when it all began.

We shared our success and failures together with our friends and supported each other on our way to our goals in sports. They were the solid foundations for trying to continue as professionals.

 Even if we didn’t know into what we threw ourselves, or just for that reason, we decided quickly. In 1991, we founded our company in Pilsen, with my name taken to form the basis of the brand. The HANNAH trademark was born."

WE ESTABLISH OUR BRAND HANNAH

While sewing on a work-at-home basis we sell our first pieces of outdoor equipment.

1991

WE ARE “ANCHORED”

KOTVA (translated “anchor”), the most famous departmental store of this era, commences merchandising our products.

1992

OUR FIRST OWN STORE

We open our first store in Slovanska street, Pilsen, and then later in the year a store in Klatovy.

1993

WE EXPAND OUR CAPACITIES

In 1996, despite moving our business several times, we yet again exceeded our production capabilities and begin working with renowned external suppliers.

1996

WE BEGIN EXPORTING

The first foreign country we export to is Slovenia, quickly followed by Hungary, Slovakia, Poland and the Ukraine.

1997

FIRST EXPEDITION TENTS

We add expedition tents for extreme conditions to our collection, and immediately became partners to several 8000m climbs.

1998

we develop "Climatic"

In partnership with a Japanese manufacturer, we develop our branded membrane “CLIMATIC”.

2002

we move under our own roof

We move premises to a newly constructed, purpose-built, commercial and administrative 3.000m2 building in Pilsen, which includes a large retail store.

2003

IMPLEMENTING LASER CUTTING TECHNOLOGY

We launch our three-layered membrane jacket “MARVEL”, where we use laser-cutting and welding technology for the first time.

2005

own mono-brand concept stores

We begin to systematically build a network of our own mono-brand concept stores in the Czech Republic. In 2007, we also design a new and modern, dynamic “HANNAH” logo.

2007

WE EXPORT TO MORE THAN 20 COUNTRIES WORLDWIDE

By now our products are being sold in Europe, Asia and America.

2014

we celebrate 25 years

The times have changed a lot by now, but what remains constant is our joy in continuously moving – forward, and anywhere in the outdoors.
